Buhler about to acquire Schmidt-Seeger

20.08.2010 Uzwil – The Buhler Technology Group plans to acquire the German company Schmidt-Seeger. With this strategic acquisition, Buhler will supplement its portfolio in the area of Grain Processing. The contract has been signed. The acquisition still requires approval of the German Federal Cartel Office. The acquisition of Schmidt-Seeger will enable Buhler to further strengthen its Grain Processing activities, which have already been very successfully established over the past years, and to forge ahead with its global growth plans. As a consequence of global population growth and the expected changes in the climate, assurance of adequate grain supplies calls for new developments. Together with Schmidt-Seeger, Buhler can offer its customers new options for integrating their entire value chains. It is thus making a significant contribution to quality assurance and retraceability of foods.

Schmidt-Seeger is a profitable company with headquarters in Beilngries north of Munich (Germany) plus additional production sites in Döbeln near Dresden (Saxony, Germany) and in Delhi (India). Schmidt-Seeger operates on a global scale as a plant supplier in the field of grain management. The company possesses proven know-how in the drying, storage, and handling of grain as well as in the malting business.

Schmidt-Seeger is to be integrated as an affiliated company in the Grain Processing division of Buhler. It has been agreed that the site Beilngries will be expanded into a center of competence within the Grain Management unit of Buhler. No layoffs are planned in connection with the acquisition. A joint integration team will further detail integration in the weeks following the closing and determine the existing potential for synergies.

The contracting parties have agreed not to disclose the acquisition price. The acquisition still requires approval by the German Federal Cartel Office.
