Getting ready for the London Olympics 2012 - Bühler's Alternative Olympics07/27/2012 By hosting the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, London has now become the first city to officially host the Modern Olympic Games for the third time. Although the games themselves will only last for a little over two weeks, for the people of London, the Olympics have become a major part of their lives.
To embrace the excitement generated by the 2012 Olympics, Bühler decided to stage its own – Bühler Alternative Olympics. The Bühler Alternative Olympics was an evening of light-hearted party games followed by a barbecue supper. The Games included a Scooter Race, a Basketball Shootout and the most popular of the lot – the Egg and Spoon Race. Bühler believes in maintaining a healthy interactive work environment and the games at the Alternative Olympics provided a platform for just that. It provided an excellent opportunity for people from different parts of the company to mingle, with people they don’t necessarily work alongside. Bühler employees seemed keen to take pride in the fact that London was going to be host to this mammoth international event.
In 2007 Bühler was relocated from its old premises at Stratford where the Olympic Park now stands, to Gallions Reach in East London. Rather than seeing the move as an unnecessary inconvenience, the company took this opportunity to design a completely new factory; making it possible to increase workflow and efficiency for the SORTEX range of optical sorters it manufactures.
Five years on and the Olympics are finally here and London is buzzing with activity. In the spirit of the Olympics, employees of Bühler will be coming in to work early; in an attempt to avoid the frenzied traffic generated by the Games.
Bühler also took this opportunity to do its bit for the local community; the entry fee to the Alternative Olympics and barbecue supper was £1 and all the proceeds were donated to the Richard House Children’s Hospice; Bühler’s chosen charity in London.
London will be the centre of the World’s attention for the duration of the Olympics and Bühler hopes that London 2012 is an international success.
